What Are You Seeking

Do you worry and find yourself fearful about tomorrow or what might happen? Can we be filled with faith and filled with fear at the same time? What would Jesus have us to do?

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches about the way of life for those who have believed on Him. He is instructing us on how we should live our life. These scriptures are as relevant today as they were the day He spoke them. He spoke about many things, but when He came to the topic of anxiety – here is what He had to say…

“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Consider the bird of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life-span by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you – you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  Matthew 6:25-34 (CSB)

Jesus was saying that those of us who know Him should think differently than those who do not know Him. Let’s all stop and ask ourselves, Do we think differently or are we conforming to the customs of the world? Are we fearing what they fear? Are we worried about the things they worry about? Are we anxious the same way they are anxious? Or are we filled with faith and trust in the One who gave His life for us? Are we seeking FIRST the kingdom of God or are we seeking FIRST to have our needs met? Today, what are you seeking?

Jesus has already told us what to do, we just simply need to obey His instruction. Seek first Jesus. Yes, we have struggles and problems, but first… Jesus. Yes, we have issues, but first… Jesus and His righteousness. When we seek Him first, we grow more faithful and learn to trust Him with our every need. We know that no matter what might come our way, He will be faithful to carry us through. We trust in His plan. We trust in His provision. And we long to experience His presence.

Seek Him FIRST!

Love to you!
