God is Bigger than the Giants

There we saw the giants. Numbers 13:33

Do you know the story? Moses sent spies ahead to check out the promised land. He was anxious to hear about the people and their cities. He asked them to bring back some of the fruit of the land because it was the season of the first grape harvest. Joshua and Caleb saw God, but the spies saw giants. It’s all a matter of perspective. Do you need to shift your outlook?

Giants! The giants are everywhere! Giants represent our difficulties. They are our struggles, our problems and our fears. They loom above us and consume our thoughts – just waiting to devour us. Just like the spies, what we see during seasons of overwhelm determine if we overcome them or if they overcome us.

Have you ever put a black dot on a white piece of paper? The more you focus on the dot and move toward it, the bigger it becomes. Before you know it, it is all you can see. That tiny black dot has consumed your vision, captured your attention and is distorting your perspective. But, the reality is, it is just a black dot.

The spies shared their fears with the Israelites and those fears engulfed the people. They wept through the night because they felt defeated even though the fight had not yet begun. The next morning they were in despair, complaining to Aaron and Moses, and speculating they would be better off to just die in the desert. When we read this story, the people seem so silly because we know the outcome. But, let me ask you a couple of questions. Can you relate to these people? Is your overwhelm affected by the fear of what could potentially happen? Is there a better way to look at things?

The spies were full of doubt, full of fear, but Joshua and Caleb told a totally different story. They were ready to attack. They were confident in their own army. They urged them to take action and not to wait. Wow. How could they see things so differently? It’s simple really. Their outlook was influenced by their underlying faith in God.

So, how do we shift our outlook? We look straight ahead and we see all that is in front of us. It is a lot! Our lives are full and things come at us out of nowhere. There are giants… giants everywhere. We can’t see past them. Can we really believe that we can get on the other side of all of this?

Tip your chin back, cast your gaze upward, and set your sites on your faithful Father. Remember, He is the One who spoke this world into motion. He is the One who breathed the breath into your lungs. You are not in control, He is. Not only is He in control, but He has gone before you. Whatever path you are about to walk down, He has already been there and He will carry you through. You can trust Him.

Just shifting your outlook from the giants in your life to the God of your life changes everything. Your giants no longer seem big, when you recognize how BIG your God is!  The giants become the black dot as you realize that God is the white space on the paper.

Hi friend 🤍

If you’ve ever felt called to more… but unsure what your next step is—you are not alone.

My name is Pam Pegram, and I’m a Leadership and Personal Growth Coach who loves Jesus.

I help Christian women gain clarity, build confidence, and step into Christ-centered influence—at work, in their community, and at home.

Because you were never meant to just get by…
You were created to live with purpose, impact others, and walk fully in what God has for you.

Here’s what I believe:

  • If you are a believer, you are called to lead

  • Leadership is influence—being salt and light (Matthew 5)

  • It’s not about position, personality, or platform

  • It’s about living on purpose right where God has placed you

How do we do that?

Through the Called to Lead Framework, where we focus on:

✔️ The formation of you as a leader (identity, mindset, beliefs)
✔️ The formation of your leadership (connection, vision, influence)
✔️ The practical application of impacting others and leaving a legacy
