4 Life-Changing Habits That Helped Me Grow in Faith, Confidence, and Leadership

There are some habits that truly shape who we become.

Not just in small ways — but in life-changing ways.

Over the years, I’ve realized there are a few intentional habits that deeply impact my mindset, my peace, my confidence, my leadership, and even the way I respond during difficult seasons. And honestly? I can always tell when I’m practicing them… and when I’m neglecting them.

These habits replenish me instead of depleting me.

They help me become more grounded, more focused, and more aligned with God’s purpose for my life.

Today, I want to share the four intentional habits that have changed my life and leadership — and I believe they can change yours too.

1. Spending Time With God First Thing in the Morning

One of the greatest changes I ever made was choosing to spend time with the Lord before letting the world into my mind.

Before social media.
Before the news.
Before emails.
Before conversations.
Before my to-do list.

There is something powerful about beginning the day in God’s Word and in prayer.

Why?

Because God already knows what your day holds. He knows what challenges are coming, what emotions you’ll face, and what truth you’ll need to hold onto.

When I spend time with Him first, I walk into my day grounded instead of overwhelmed.

Some mornings, my thoughts are already racing. On those days, I’ll often “brain dump” my thoughts onto paper before opening my Bible. Writing everything down clears space in my mind so I can actually hear from the Lord.

And then I pray Scripture back over my life.

Friend, even 15 intentional minutes with God can change the atmosphere of your entire day.

2. Becoming a Consistent Learner

Leaders never stop growing.

For over 20 years, I’ve been intentional about learning, reading, studying, and growing. I don’t just casually read books — I study them. I underline. I journal. I apply what I’m learning.

But here’s what matters most to me:
I want everything I learn to align with the truth of God’s Word.

Growth increases confidence.
Growth increases leadership capacity.
Growth helps us impact more lives.

If we stop learning, we stop growing.

And too many people are spending hours consuming entertainment while neglecting personal growth.

Friend, replace some of the habits that deplete you with habits that strengthen you.

Leaders are readers. (Want a list of my favorite books? I am posting them on FB, IG, and TikTok

3. Keeping a Truth Journal

One of the most powerful tools in my life has been keeping a truth journal.

Whenever God reveals something to me through Scripture, a sermon, prayer time, or a conversation — I write it down.

Why?

Because hard seasons come unexpectedly.

There are moments when we feel overwhelmed, discouraged, confused, or broken. And in those moments, it’s easy to believe lies about ourselves.

But a truth journal reminds us what God says is true.

Instead of:
“I’m a failure.”

We remember:
“I am loved with an everlasting love.”
“I am God’s masterpiece.”
“I was created on purpose for a purpose.”

Truth silences lies.

And sometimes the very truth God revealed to you weeks earlier becomes the exact encouragement you need today.

4. Living With Open Hands

This habit may sound simple, but it has deeply changed my heart posture.

I intentionally pray with open hands.

Why?

Because open hands symbolize surrender.

When my hands are open, I’m releasing my burdens, fears, disappointments, and struggles to God. I’m letting them fall at the foot of the cross.

But open hands also position me to receive.

Peace.
Wisdom.
Comfort.
Strength.
Direction.
Healing.
Whatever God wants to place in my life.

Closed hands hold tightly to control.
Open hands trust God fully.

And friend, that changes everything.

Final Encouragement

These four habits have transformed my life:

  • Time with God

  • Intentional growth

  • Journaling truth

  • Living with open hands

They’ve strengthened my leadership, increased my confidence, deepened my faith, and changed the way I walk through difficult seasons.

And the beautiful thing?
These habits are available to you too.

Don’t overcomplicate it.
Just start.

Choose one habit today and begin practicing it consistently.

Small intentional choices lead to powerful long-term transformation.

Hi friend -

If you’ve ever felt called to more… but unsure what your next step is—you are not alone.

My name is Pam Pegram, and I’m a Leadership and Personal Growth Coach who loves Jesus.

I help Christian women gain clarity, build confidence, and step into Christ-centered influence—at work, in their community, and at home.

You were created to live with purpose, impact others, and walk fully in what God has for you.

Here’s what I believe:

  • If you are a believer, you are called to lead

  • Leadership is influence—being salt and light (Matthew 5)

  • It’s not about position, personality, or platform

  • It’s about living on purpose right where God has placed you

How do we do that?

Through the Called to Lead Framework, where we focus on:

✔️ The formation of you as a leader (identity, mindset, beliefs)
✔️ The formation of your leadership (connection, vision, influence)
✔️ The practical application of impacting others and leaving a legacy

It’s time to become who you were created to be so you can do what you are called to do.
