Follow Me

Follow Me. In today’s world we hear “follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.” Follow me! The emphasis here is always on the “me”. Our society is so desperate for more attention – screaming “look at me! Here is what I am doing today. My little family, my party, my house, my day, my dinner is the best of all! Give ME attention and praise and follow me!!” Oh, we all have those friends who post absolutely everything. We all secretly want to pick up the phone, call them and say, “Really? Do you really think the world cares about that? What is your point? I could have lived my whole entire life without knowing that and would have been fine! Why would you post that?” LOL! (Forgive me for throwing in a social media acronym there! LOL = Laugh Out Loud!)

The world is changing and we are all going along with it. Sometimes it feels scary to me. The amount of time that is spent staring at phones and on social media is crazy (or am I supposed to say cra-cra?).  It worries me for future generations. Will they know how to communicate? Will we still look one another in the eye? Will we all start speaking in those crazy abbreviations used on social media? Why are words being shortened? Are we really so busy we cannot say all of the syllables? Will our greatest desire in life become to add followers to our social media accounts? Follow me. Follow me! FOLLOW ME!!!!!!! Will the ones with the most followers win?

The world is desperate! People sit with their phones searching for the right ones to follow. Who is trending? Who is interesting? Who has the most followers? What is the answer to all of this craziness? I believe our society realizes it needs something – but what is it? They are looking for the answer. They are searching. They are scrolling. Who to follow?

Well…ironically the answer is “Follow me”.  No…not me! I mean the answer is in those two little words. It is the bottom line. It is the main thing. It is the answer to everything we need. Long before social media – those words were penned – not pinned like on Pinterest – but penned in the greatest book ever written. Do you remember who said, “Follow me.”? Sure you do! Jesus said it. He said it again and again. He meant it. We are to follow Him. Let’s look at what He said…

“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” (Matthew 16:24)

“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

I love that in Matthew 11:28-30, He changed His wording just a little - but oh, what a great impact these words have on my soul. He said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” So we can follow Him and we can come to Him. He is our everything! He is enough! He is the ONE to follow!!

Looking for someone to follow? Follow Jesus!   What if we all went viral and posted, tweeted, and pinned about the One we follow - the One we give the most likes - the One we are ready to share? Could we make a difference? I believe we would! Let’s follow Jesus! Let’s come to Jesus! Let’s share Jesus! Will you do it? Will you share Jesus today? Share a scripture. Share a praise. Share the graphic at the top of this post. Or feel free to share this post. But let’s all share Jesus with the world today. Let’s post it, tweet it, pin it …whatever. Invite others to follow Him! HE IS ALL WE NEED!
