New Year New Goals

New Year New Goals

Here we are beginning a new year. We have passed our first week where we were setting resolutions and choosing words of the year. I wonder why we feel it necessary to follow the customs of everyone around us.

Let’s don’t. Instead, let’s sit and think… really ponder… what matters most?

Let’s choose this year to really focus on the one thing that matters most of all the things in our life. Hmm… it is not our physical health, our finances, or our circle of friends. It is not our time management, our stress level or our spending habits. However, the One thing that matters most could have a big impact on every area of our life.

The most important thing in our life is our relationship with Jesus.

May this be the year that we truly grasp ahold of this profound truth. No more just saying it is important. This is the year where we start living as if it is the most important thing.

Before we scan these sentences, think we are good, and move on to the next thing – let’s check to see how we are doing…

During Jesus’ ministry years, He was asked what was the greatest commandment. He replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38

Do we?

Then the resurrected Messiah shared the great commission, “’Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.”

Are we?

So… based on these teachings of our Savior – how are we doing?

What needs to change?

AW Tozer said, “As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.”

Many of the struggles we face are simply because we continue to try to follow the world and do things our way. When will we recognize that His way is best? When will we stop practicing religion and establish a deeply rooted relationship with Jesus? If we want to do better and be better – than that must begin with choosing to love Him, live for Him, and point others to Him.

Let’s change our goals for 2024! Let’s stop making our goals all about our desires and ask Him to help us make our desires line up with what He desires for me.

What does God want your goals for this brand new year to be? What are His plans for you? I encourage you to spend the rest of the week talking to Him about it. Ask Him questions. Spend time in His word. Find some quiet space and listen.

Here is my goal for the year… actually, it is my goal for my life. It is what I pray people remember about me. It is what I am so desperately hoping is happening. It is what I believe God wants for me…

Follow Jesus and lead others to Him.

No matter what we write down or claim as our goals, this is what God is asking of all of us. Will you do it? I pray you will.

Let’s say yes and give Him more in 2024!

Praying for you-
