Serving with a Purpose: Exploring 1 Peter 4:10-11

Serving with a Purpose: Exploring 1 Peter 4:10-11

Then everything you do will bring glory… Wait, let’s read that again. “Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ.” Did that say “everything you do”?

I can tell you with certainty that I am having a hard time imagining that everything I do could possibly bring honor to God. Yet, at the same time I believe the Bible is filled with truth. So, maybe the question we need to ask is how?

How can we bring glory to God in everything we do?

Let’s read 1 Peter 4:10-11 in the New Living Translation. It says, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.”

Before you hop off because you think you don’t have a gift. WRONG. This scripture clearly tells us that we all have been given a gift and we are to use it to serve others.

Then there are some of us who know our gift and we enjoy using our gift /abilities / talents for ourselves. We may even think that we have developed this gift on our own.

How? How is God glorified when we use our gift(s) and our abilities? Well, first we can remember that every good and perfect gift is from above. The breath in our lungs is His breath and our gifts are His gifts. Next, we can ask Him how He wants to use our gifts and then be obedient to use them as He directs us. And lastly, we glorify God when we use our gifts to serve others and do it with His strength and His energy.

Here are some points to ponder…

  • What are my gifts? Since we can’t use the excuse that we don’t know what our gifts are, let’s ask God to help us identify them. We can spend some time studying Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, and Ephesians 4:11.

  • Shying away from using our gifts is actually being disobedient to do what His word instructs us to do.

  • Who am I serving? Since it doesn’t say “if you want to”, then we are to show up and serve others.

One thing that God has proven over and over and over again in my life is that His way is always best. So, if He says that we should use our gifts to serve others and glorify Him, then we should. I am convinced that once we do, we will wish that we had done it long ago.

Happy serving!

Love you-

Pam

Hi friend 🤍

If you’ve ever felt called to more… but unsure what your next step is—you are not alone.

My name is Pam Pegram, and I’m a Leadership and Personal Growth Coach who loves Jesus.

I help Christian women gain clarity, build confidence, and step into Christ-centered influence—at work, in their community, and at home.

Because you were never meant to just get by…
You were created to live with purpose, impact others, and walk fully in what God has for you.

Here’s what I believe:

  • If you are a believer, you are called to lead

  • Leadership is influence—being salt and light (Matthew 5)

  • It’s not about position, personality, or platform

  • It’s about living on purpose right where God has placed you

How do we do that?

Through the Called to Lead Framework, where we focus on:

✔️ The formation of you as a leader (identity, mindset, beliefs)
✔️ The formation of your leadership (connection, vision, influence)
✔️ The practical application of impacting others and leaving a legacy
