How to Live the Life God Designed for You: 10 Biblical Truths from Colossians 3

Have you ever reached the end of a long day and wondered...

"Am I really living the life God created me to live?"

You're checking off the to-do list. You're taking care of everyone else. You're working hard. You're serving at church. Yet something inside keeps whispering,

"There has to be more than this."

Friend, I believe there is.

Not because you need a different job, a bigger platform, or a completely new life—but because God invites us to live differently from the inside out.

Recently, while spending time in Colossians 3, I found myself unable to move on. God kept drawing me back to these verses. They aren't simply instructions for better behavior. They're an invitation to become the woman He designed you to be.

If you're longing for more clarity, more peace, more purpose, and greater confidence in God's calling, these ten truths can completely reshape the way you live.

1. Set Your Heart on Heaven's Priorities

Our culture constantly pulls our attention toward what's urgent. God calls us to focus on what's eternal.

When your eyes are fixed on Christ instead of circumstances, your decisions begin to change. Your priorities shift. Your conversations become different. You stop chasing temporary success and start investing in what lasts forever.

Ask yourself:

Am I building my schedule around God's priorities or everyone else's expectations?

2. Stop Looking to the World to Fill What Only Jesus Can

The world promises satisfaction through success, comfort, possessions, entertainment, or approval. Jesus offers something far better.

When our hearts are full of Him, the things of this world begin to lose their grip. Gratitude replaces comparison. Contentment replaces striving.

Living God's way isn't about missing out. It's about discovering something infinitely better.

3. Remember Who You Really Are

One of the greatest struggles I see among Christian women is identity. We define ourselves by our career, our title, our failures, our children, or what other people think. But Colossians reminds us that your life is hidden with Christ.

Your identity is secure because it rests in Him—not in your performance. That changes everything.

4. Live Every Day with Eternity in Mind

Jesus is coming again - hopefully soon. That isn't meant to create fear. It's meant to create focus.

When we remember eternity, we stop obsessing over temporary disappointments and start asking better questions:

  • How can I love someone today?

  • Who needs encouragement?

  • How can I influence someone toward Jesus?

  • Am I living for what truly matters?

Those are the questions that transform ordinary days into meaningful ones.

5. Let Go of Anything That Pulls You Away from God

Colossians tells us to put to death the sinful patterns that once controlled us. That's not about shame, it's about freedom. Anything that consistently pulls your heart away from Christ will eventually keep you from becoming the woman He created you to be.

Freedom begins with surrender.

6. Put On Your New Nature Every Morning

One of my favorite truths is that God's mercies are new every morning. Every single day is a fresh opportunity. You don't have to carry yesterday's failures into today. Instead, choose to intentionally "put on" compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love.

These aren't personality traits. They're evidence that Christ is transforming your heart.

7. Never Stop Growing

Healthy leaders are lifelong learners. Healthy disciples are lifelong growers, but growth doesn't happen accidentally. It takes intention.

What is your Continuing Education plan? Be intentional to…

  • Spend time in God's Word.

  • Read books that strengthen your faith.

  • Dive into a course or study.

  • Surround yourself with wise believers.

  • Ask hard questions.

  • Keep learning.

The more you know Jesus, the more you'll become like Him.

8. Choose Grace Over Being Easily Offended

This one is challenging. Our culture almost celebrates outrage. Jesus calls us to something different, He calls us to extend grace, to forgive, to make allowance for the weaknesses of others, to love well.

Imagine how different our homes, churches, workplaces, and friendships would look if believers became difficult to offend and quick to forgive.

(note: We should all take time to learn the difference between personal offense and righteous anger.)

9. Influence Someone Else

Leadership isn't reserved for people with microphones or big platforms. Simply put, leadership is influence. Every conversation, text, act of kindness, decision, and relationship - you are influencing someone. The question isn't whether you're leading.

The question is: Where are you leading people?

One of the greatest privileges we have is pointing others toward Jesus simply by the way we live.

10. Represent Christ Everywhere You Go

You are Christ's ambassador. People are watching - not because you're perfect - but because your life tells a story. It’s true. Your words, reactions, integrity, generosity, compassion - all point people either toward Jesus—or away from Him.

What an incredible responsibility and what an incredible privilege.

What If You Lived This Way Every Day?

Imagine waking up each morning knowing exactly who you are and knowing your purpose. What if you walked in confidence—not because life is easy—but because Christ is leading you. What if you made intentional decisions - to grow spiritually and to influence the people around you with wisdom, love, and grace.

Friend, that kind of life is possible. Not because you're strong enough, but because Christ will transform you day by day.

That's the life He designed for you.
