We have all heard “excuses are useless” and they really are. We get it when we are listening to the excuses of others. We can see right through them and recognize what they are doing.

But… what about when we are making excuses? Do we recognize it? Or are we choosing to lean into denial?

As I sat at breakfast with 3 friends, I realized we were not there by chance. We were all there by God’s design. I had no idea how much this one meal, these 2 hours of conversation, would impact me.

Are you walking in obedience or disobedience? Recently, I have been talking a lot about obedience - on my podcast and with my clients. As I prepared, as I recorded, and as I reflected, God was tapping me on the shoulder. As I worked with my clients and gave them examples of what it means to trust and obey, He was whispering in my ear. And as I shared with one that saying I am trying or working on it is in fact choosing disobedience, He started shining a light on my disobedience.

Whether we want to admit it and accept it or not, being a Christ follower means we should be leading others to Him. It’s not easy and it’s not always comfortable. But nevertheless, it is what we are instructed to do.  It should be our daily cry! Help! Lord, lead me as I lead others to You. Whether they are…

Here we are beginning a new year. We have passed our first week where we were setting resolutions and choosing words of the year. I wonder why we feel it necessary to follow the customs of everyone around us. Let’s don’t. Instead, let’s sit and think… really ponder… what matters most? We might find we need to set New Goals. Oh, the overwhelm. It wants to seep into our lives like a sneaky thief and run out the door with all of our peace. Sometimes it uses the power of suggestion. A friend shares that she is overwhelmed, and our mind decides that we should be overwhelmed as well. As believers, we are followers of Christ. I mean the very term Christian reveals that. And as believers, we are also to be leaders. We are to become like Christ and He was indeed a leader. It is important to know when to lead and when to follow. Let’s talk about it…

While we are creating a comfy and cozy existence for ourselves, the world is out there going to hell. If we are honest, we are comfortable with it. We have turned off the news, avoid the dangerous areas of town, and do nothing to share Jesus with the lost. Do you think we are supposed to sit back, stay in our comfort zone, and just watch it happen? Or is there something we are supposed to do?

The conversation shifted to reveal the frustration that comes from our search for the answers. We want to hear from God, we want to know why, and we need help solving the issues we are walking through. I made a statement that resonated deep within some of the women. “We aren’t to run to Jesus for the answers, we are to come to Him who is The Answer.” Insert mind blown emoji. Are you doing the same thing?

I can’t get over it. I never want to get over it. This picture is me celebrating. Look closely and you will see the movement in my dress. That is because I am jumping up and down, pumping my fist, and sobbing, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”. I just couldn’t contain my joy over what God had just done.

Today I listened to a 20 second clip of Priscilla Shirer that grabbed my attention and I shared it to my social media Stories. She said, “Do you understand that your sons and your daughters, your grandsons and your granddaughters, our great grandchildren that we may never actually lay eyes on… Do you realize that they are counting on you rising up and being who God has called you to be? Do you know that there are whole generational curses that can be broken if you get a handle on your identity.” She didn’t speak nonchalantly; she asked the question passionately. It was like BAM! Do you lecture or do you lead by example. It started with my children. I would go into their room and over explain why they were in trouble and what they could have done better. Then I carried it into other relationships, feeling the need to explain and re-explain why I said what I said. I also brought it into my leadership, sharing why we can or cannot do something and going back over it again and again to make sure they understood where I was coming from. I was lecturing. Yikes! I hate that. Why lecture? I think I did it (and sometimes still do) because I want you to understand me and know my heart. Grab your magnifying glass, because…

It is so easy to focus on me, do what I think is best, and only worry about my future, my decisions, and my next steps. It is so easy to see my way as the best way and other’s idea as subpar.
